Are You Making these Mistakes when You Marinade Your Meat?
Grilling, as we all know, is a healthier way to prepare meat. But now they tell us that grilling can have some negative health effects. Substances known to be cancer-causing are released by grilling. So now what? We grill, thinking it will reduce our risk of heart disease, only to find we’re increasing our cancer risk?
And then we learn that the marinades we use are just adding calories and fat.
No need to despair. Research has shown that marinating meat in herbs reduces the potential carcinogens. Beer also has a healthful effect, as well.
Here’s a marinade recipe, full of herbs and low in calories:
Mexican-Style Beer Marinade
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
1/2 cup beer
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
1 tablespoon grape seed oil
1 tablespoon chopped garlic
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon red chili flakes (optional)
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1. In a medium bowl, combine all marinade ingredients
2. Pour into large sealable bag and add meat
3. Seal and shake well
4. Refrigerate 4 hours or overnight
5. Grill meat and garnish with cilantro and limes
