The Ultimate Healthy Grocery List When You’re Cooking for One

Because No One Needs a Science Experiment in their Fridge

When you’re not so concerned with cooking healthy, you can stock up on pasta and frozen pizza and call it a day. No worries about stuff going bad in the fridge!

But if you’re trying to eat well, it’s tough to shop for just one person. Unless you want to make daily trips to the grocery store, you need to figure what quantities of fresh fruits and veggies to buy. And determining what you’ll eat before it goes bad can be a challenge.

Here’s a handy list to get you started. The suggested quantities will help you estimate how much to buy of the stuff you like, so you won’t have to deal with waste or lettuce that’s turned black. Happy shopping!

Time to stop tossing bad food and money in the trash! This grocery list from Dana Angelo White, R.D., registered dietitian and fitness consultant, includes everything one person needs to eat healthy and delicious for one week. (Click on it to print it out!) Some items are staples, so only stock up on, say, oatmeal, if you’re running low. And for the sake of your budget, buy things like meat and seafood in bulk packages (just don’t go crazy on the 12-packs!) and freeze them to thaw and eat as needed. But be sure to get your produce and dairy weekly. And then start whipping up some amazing meals!
